ps. Geez I wonder what kind of machine -X- had running Operation Blitz. Anybody remember if we ever had 25vs25 lag-free on Op Blitz? good luck with all that computer mumbo-jumbo however, if I remember correctly there was some lag with high player games on the old Blitz, I remember a lot of complaints and moments when ET would freeze and then restart.

there really wasnt alot of lag, even when it was 25 vs 25. it was more like once or twice a map, there would be a massive lag spike lasting 30 seconds to a minute. that was knife time ;D

hahahah the lag of the OP Blitz in FDump, Alieshouse 450-728 Ping record for me. ;D permanent and i standing and HSB standig and we make smaltalk in the chat, play no chance ;D Hobsta? what for a mainboard have you for the CPU and how much RAM you will? i think when the mainboard not good, then the high FBS not maximal work. greez Fitzel P.S. Linux is the best for ET- Server. Sorry i am a Linux nOOB, can not help for this.

;DHHAHAHAHA ;D Yes on the Old Blitz was lag at 50 players, but my ping dont rise up so much the max on the Old Blitz i have was 220 ping, i dont talk about 999 ping that all get in some times. Also if you will use an AMD CPU use a good colling system ,they have problems with temperature, is good for server, but also if you use a 2.4 Intel with 800 FSB will be super, or 2.8 Intel with 800 FSB , is like heaving 2 CPU in your computer ,instead of one( that is mean Dual Hyper Trading power ,800 FSB). The FSB 800 is the best for a server like this. General Hobbit if you need more to know, i will teach you .

The lag on the old Blitz wasnt so much the hardware. That server was a live production server with over 100 active domains on it. Database, FTP, DNS, Apache, mail and everything else that a full blown web server had running. Even the old Blitz:west server was running on a Celeron 2.0 w/ 512mb ram and that was full with 50 players all the time. CPU at 95-99% all day long. The original Blitz was a P4 2.0 w/ 1GB ram and with 50 players and all web and server services running, CPU @ 75% and virtually no swap. The lag would get bad when stats would run. The old .cgi script would eat up alot of horsepower. Thats why I took the stats down. I started working on a mySQL version of the stats but never had time to finish it. Also, I had to throttle the CPU & RAM for the paying customers. Generally ET had use of all the servers resources until a site or bunch of sites got some traffic then the server would take what was needed to keep those sites running smoothly. Bandwidth is not all the same. The quality of bandwidth varies from suppliers. Cable and DSL bandwidth being the worst quality and dedicated, high quality bandwidth such as supplied for the Blitz servers being the best. When I say quality, I mean all incoming and outgoing connections going through the best routers at gigabit speeds over fiber to sustain the 50 players at reasonable levels. Alot of times routers go down/break for no appearent reason and the switch to re-rout the traffic over different networks to keep the traffic flowing causes lag. The Blitz servers were run off of 16 separate gigabit networks with 4 OC3 backup networks. Even with all that bandwidth available we are only allocated 10 or 100 m/bits per server. We can sustain 10 m/bit and burst to 100 m/bit when needed. I limited all player slots to 5000 kb because 50 players 24/7 would eat up over 1 terabyte of measured bandwidth per month. Anything over 1.2 terabytes would be charged extra $$$ in the range of $200-300 per month This setting created even response times for the dial up users and the high speed users. So everyone on the server had a fair chance to play even when all those air strikes were going on Sorry for the long post, I finally got a break and havnt seen you guys for 7 months ....play on -X-

Masterchief -X- I have no idea how you ran the 50 player server off of A P4 2ghz. My only guess now is that ETPub is more CPU intensive than Shrub. Even with my 2.8mhz, I run at 99% load with NOTHING else running on the server. Geez I feel like going back to Shrub 5000 kb even at 50 players? Man that is incredible. I didn't think I'd get away with such a low number. I think I might even reconfig Lemmings to about 15000 now since you say that. I believe ETPub eats up alot more bandwith then Shrub. I haven't seen you in over a year Still remember your old fave Arty spot on Goldrush though. Thanks a bunch for the info -X- Hobbit
